Each year, hundreds of thousands of consumers file for bankruptcy protection. Based on a series of income-to-debt calculations and ratios, they are either placed into the Chapter 7 debt discharge program, or the Chapter 13 debt repayment program, a process of repaying debt over a 3 to 5 year period to a 'trustee', who then makes payments to the debtor's creditors.

$7 billion was processed last year in the Chapter 13 program, mostly by one financial institution.  This session examines the opportunities to service the payment procesing requirements of the debtors, the creditors, the trustees and the debtors' employers, all of whom have to actively participate in initiating, transmitting, posting and processing a largely paper-based volume of monthly Chapter 13 debtor payments.
